Now about Brokeback Mountain as I promised. Steven said "I want a good story, beautiful or creative cinematography, a touch of an emotion and good acting. Something to transport me away to another reality for a couple of hours for the enjoyment of it." This movie has all of this but you don't want to see it because it happens to be about two cowboys who figure out that they have feelings for eachother. it has alot more in the story, it shows how it effects others and how they tried to deal with it and try not to hurt those around them. I believe that when a director looks at a project such as this one I don't think that there is an agenda, most directors are looking for the art etc. and an actor, well I don't think that you take on this kind of role to try and boost your career. Now the promossion people which are usually the production company i do truely believe that they twist it all to appeal to some groups and then to make others currious about it and by promoting it as a gay cowboy movie you know that that is going to cause some controversy and in so doing gets it talked about in every circle in society. to them as long as you are talking about it, good or bad, at least you are talking about it. Now I think that everyone should open their mind a bit and give it a chance. Just because you watch this movie does not mean that you are gay. I have very close friends that are gay and this just gives you an insight on how they must feel in having to deal with people that are so closed minded.
Here is my question though......why is it that people can watch pornography, some with women with women or men with men and get their jollies off of that? but you even mention a movie that deals with the emotion of it all and the same people turn into blubbering idiots?
(now i am not saying that the people that have made comments before are idiots i am just asking a question. so please do NOT get offended.)
thanks for letting me stir the pot and please feel free to stir it with me or throw it in my face.
peace.
ps. i have to get 2 fillings tomorrow ;-(
Posted by mal at April 27, 2006 10:52 PMJust today somebody told me that they watched Brokeback last night. They didn't know why everyone was making such a big deal about this movie being so great. They said it was a slow, boring movie, and after a while you're just saying "ENOUGH ALREADY!" All of which is pretty much what I figured it would be. So, my plans to not see it were just reinforced.
Posted by: Scott at April 27, 2006 11:32 PMI figured I would Netflix it. You know me, I'm such a movie snob I wouldn't like it even if they weren't gay. I have a few gay friends as well but they aren't the "I was BORN this way boohoo, wow-is-me" type of gay. Those people drive me nuts. News flash... there is no "gay" chromesome you idiots! I've talked deeply with my homosexual friends and always say it's not my place to judge their personal CHOICES. My personal view is that God gave us reproductive organs as a gift to experience part of his power, the power of creation. I'm no biology major (oh wait, yes I am) but reproduction doesn't take place in the ass last I checked. But like I said I'm not judging. Hows that for stiring the pot?
Posted by: Tim at April 28, 2006 09:38 AMSee - that's just the thing. People are making a big deal over this movie, because it's focused on the 'gay' thing. Not because it's a good movie. I've heard from more than one person that the movie dragged on and on and went no where and just felt lost. It has very little to do with the gay thing. Ya know. Other than the writers, producers & distributors are trying to 'make a friggin' statement and they played the 'gay' type race card all over the place in tyring to get this movie to win the best picture Oscar.
Of course, I'm gonna have to agree with Tim. The plumbing in that movie just don't match up - nope, not interested!
